October is breast cancer awareness month. We all know someone who has been affected by breast cancer in some way. So I wanted to create a pink recipe to shed light on this important topic. Here’s my pink strawberry banana smoothie in honor of breast cancer awareness month! Hands down it is my favorite type of smoothie
Three simple ingredients
Simple smoothies are delicious. Just fresh fruits and plant milk! It’s great as a dessert or a quick breakfast when you are short on time. For my smoothie, I use:
- Strawberries
- Banana
- Plant milk (I used almond)
Optional Add ins
For extra protein and Fiber, I like to add in some goodies to my smoothies. this may include:
- Hemp seeds: For a boost of protein, fatty acids and Vitamin E.
- Chia seeds: Great source of B12 and healthy fatty acids.
- Protein Powder: I use this sparingly, but a plant-based protein. powder helps build and repair muscles post-workout.
- Almond meal/ flour: Adds protein if you are avoiding artificial protein powders.
- Almond butter: For a nutty taste! Adds fats, proteins which keep you fuller longer.
Quick Tip
Frozen is your friend! Everyone loves a smoothie that is cold and refreshing. For this, as soon as my bananas get ripe, I freeze them. That way I don’t have the issue of mushy black bananas on my counter top and I can quickly make a smoothie another day. I also tend to freeze strawberries or use frozen when strawberries are not in season I would not recommend buying strawberries out of season.
