Masala Peanut Chaat

December 7, 2019

At almost every party my parents hosted growing up, masala peanut chaat was a feature. It’s basically an addictive combination of crunchy roasted peanuts, lime, red onions and chili. This dish is so easy to make and you won’t be able to stop munching on it!

All you need for this dish is a few simple ingredients. The quantities in this recipe are for a party size. For a family of 4 or for a snack, I would use half of the quantities listed.

  • Dry roasted peanuts (16 oz), unsalted if possible
  • Red onion
  • Cilantro
  • Lime
  • Chaat masala (or sub 1/4 tsp black salt)
  • Cumin Powder
  • Red Chili powder
  • Serrano chili (or green chili of choice)

This recipe is best served fresh as the peanuts tend to soften up over time.

Masala Peanut Chaat

Prep Time10 minutes mins
Course: Appetizer
Cuisine: Indian
Servings: 10 people

Ingredients

  • 16 oz Dry roasted peanuts unsalted
  • 1/4 Red onion chopped finely
  • 1/4 cup cilantro
  • 1 lime
  • 1 tsp chaat masala
  • 1 tsp cumin powder
  • 1 serrano chili
  • 1/2 tsp red chili powder (optional)
  • salt to taste

Instructions

  • In a large mixing bowl, add the peanuts.
  • Add in chopped chili and red onion. Remove the seeds from the chili if you prefer less spice.
  • Start by juicing half a lime. You may need to taste and adjust the lime later.
  • Add chaat masala, cumin powder and red chili powder. Add 1 tsp salt if peanuts are unsalted.
  • Adjust salt and lime to taste. I added the juice of 1 full lime to my chaat.
  • Add cilantro and mix well.
  • Serve immediately.

Notes

If you prefer, you may roast your own peanuts in a pan on a medium flame until lightly brown and toasted.
